Since the new year began, our shoppers have generously placed $6,255.03 in the hands of numerus non-profit organizations in the region.
The following organizations have benefitted from the Co-op’s monthly “Round up at the Register” campaign thus far in 2021:
Friends of Decorah Public Library: $1,196.13
Downtown Decorah Betterment Association (DDBA): $1,084.00
Lansing Iowa Food Trust: $1,166.86
Decorah Pride: $1,557.38
Northeast Iowa Montessori: $1,250.66
Why round up?
Our monthly round up campaigns are intrinsically tied to the Co-op’s community service commitment as outlined in the Co-op Missions and Ends statement. Co-op shoppers are provided the opportunity to round up to the nearest dollar to support this organizational end, which reads as follows:
Oneota Community Co-op Organizational End number six: “A diverse, local community whose fabric is strengthened through caring, and sharing gifts of time, energy and resources.”
In rounding up, we support numerous agencies amidst us, while continuing to develop Co-op principles. As GM Nate puts it, “The strength of the Co-op is determined by those surrounding us. Becoming stronger together continues to be central to our growth.”
A busy 2020
Despite the coronavirus pandemic, 2020 round ups topped out at a collective $7,600.
Habitat for Humanity, Northeast Iowa Peace and Justice Center, Feed Iowa First, Sustainable Iowa Land Trust, Decorah Community Food Pantry and Cycling without Age.
Downtown Decorah Betterment Association’s Marcia McKelvey shared:
“We greatly appreciate Oneota Co-op and the opportunity to be a benefactor of their “Round-up at the Register” program. DDBA has a variety of ongoing projects such as flower baskets, Lawn Chair Night, rooftop lights, benches, sidewalk trees, kiosks, murals, customer parking and a new project in summer 2021–the construction of Dry Run Park. A shout-out to Oneota Co-op for including us!”
