Welcome to the largest bulk foods department in northeast Iowa! Bulk is a department at the heart of Oneota Co-op. The Co-op’s roots were planted when a group of individuals in the early 1970s formed a buying club to purchase healthy, bulk foods to divide among its members. Bulk purchasing remains a sustainable, and affordable, option today.
Bulk items available include flours, oats, grains, beans, nuts, spices, maple syrup, oils, nut butters, tea, coffee, soaps and more. We feature local, organic flour from Meadowlark Farm & Mill, maple syrup from Green’s Sugar Bush and spices from fellow cooperative, Frontier Co-op.
Shopping “bulk” doesn’t mean one has to purchase a large amount of an item; it means consumers may buy as little, or as much, as they desire. Shoppers may bring their own clean container, or purchase one in the store.
“But I’ve never shopped in the Bulk department.” No worries! That’s what our friendly Co-op staff is here for. We will answer your questions and help you learn how easy, sustainable, and cost-effective shopping bulk truly is.

The Chill case also contains non-dairy options like milk and yogurt crafted from oats, almonds, soy, coconut, flax and goat’s milk. We carry eggs from small, local producers and offer free-range and organic options. Look for vegetarian and vegan meatless products, including dairy-free cheeses, dips, creams and creamers as well.

Discerning wine shoppers are impressed with our selection and we love hearing so. A grateful nod goes to a couple of our vendors, Meadowlark Provisions of Decorah, and Best Case Wines of Iowa City, for their top-notch recommendations and service. We’re able to offer beautiful, hand-selected options at moderate price points.
Our beer, cider, and hard kombucha selections are selected as carefully as our wines. There’s a story behind our brands – and we love ones that involve entrepreneurship, give-back initiatives, and the desire to build strong communities. Local community builders included on our shelves include options from Convergence Ciderworks and Winneshiek County breweries Pivo, Pulpit Rock and Toppling Goliath. Co-op shoppers are invited to use our popular “Pick-a-Six” on our chilled options. Grab a six-slotted container, pick out six selections, save a couple bucks at the register, and let your indoor or outdoor adventures begin!
