The Oneota Community Food Co-op is currently accepting applications for a General Manager. The Oneota Community Food Co-op is a cooperatively owned grocery store specializing in organic, local, and sustainably produced products since 1974. Located in beautiful Decorah, Iowa, the Co-op has become a hub of activity over the years and is a destination for visitors to our area. For over four decades we have provided whole foods at a reasonable cost, with an emphasis on organic, local, and bulk foods. Responsibilities:

  • Carry out the vision, mission, goals, and objectives of The Oneota Community Food Co-op.
  • Report to and plan with Board of Directors the store’s financial and operational status.
  • Ensure smooth execution of all daily store operations.
  • Maintain our friendly community-oriented store atmosphere, prompt customer service and member relations, and a well maintained store appearance.
  • Collaborate with department heads for effective marketing and merchandising strategies that include educational demos and tastings.
  • Provide sound financial management, including interpretation, planning and implementation of financial reports, maximizing operational efficiency, and ensuring adequate cash flow and capital for present and future operations.
  • Schedule and attend regular staff and manager meetings to review and plan store and department systems, financials, communications, events, and member workers.
  • Hire, supervise, develop, evaluate, and determine compensation for staff with a focus on positive reinforcement and empowerment.
  • Oversee maintenance and repairs.
  • Demonstrate a genuine interest in creating an excellent work environment.

Considered individuals will be highly motivated and show experience in the following qualifications:

Natural Grocery Leadership

  • Natural grocery store management experience, ideally within a grocery co-op.
  • Supervisory experience: developing and coaching, leading by example, supervising supervisory employees, and other similar functions.
  • Financial experience: operating, capital, and cash budgeting; interpreting and analyzing financial statements and accounting ratios, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and develop management team and foster stakeholder alignment around the co-op’s vision.
  • Personal and professional values that align with cooperative principles.

Growth

  • Ability to develop the systems needed to support our growing business.
  • Strength in strategic planning in a competitive environment.
  • Bottom line accountability experience for a business with minimum annual sales volume of $5 million.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement strategy for development and growth in a competitive market.
  • Experience working with boards and familiarity with policy governance.
  • Experience in natural foods industry and knowledge of current trends.
  • Experience and familiarity with cooperative business.
  • Ability to effectively represent the Oneota Community Food Co-op to a diverse community.
  • Ability to build and maintain community, local and national relationships.

The Oneota Community Food Co-op is located in beautiful Decorah, nestled in the bluffs of northeast Iowa.  Decorah is a town of 8,000, which includes a student body of nearby Luther College. Decorah is hub for outdoor enthusiasts.
