By Amy Grinna, board member
We have some exciting news to share with our member-owners. Our board secretary, Nathan Dietzenbach, recently accepted a position as the Co-op’s new fresh manager. As a board, we are excited to see the Co-op utilize Nathan’s passion for food and cooperatives in this new endeavor. We wish Nathan all the best in this new role.
Oneota Co-op Policy Governance G4:2.3* precludes employees from serving on the board of directors. Nathan’s subsequent board resignation created an open position on the Board, as well as an open office of secretary.
This change has provided new opportunities. We are happy to share that Erin Shaw (on right) will be joining the board to complete the balance of Nathan’s term (expiration 2027). OCC Bylaw 5.10* allows the board the ability to fill vacant positions. Our great pool of candidates from the last election made the choice easy. Our member-owners had voted Erin as the next top vote recipient in the 2024 election. Erin has graciously accepted, been approved by the board, and begins her service at the Tuesday, Sept. 23 board meeting. Welcome, Erin! We are excited to have you join us.

Secondly, congratulations to board member Steph Hughes (on left) for her continued willingness to serve the Co-op. Steph has been appointed as board secretary. We know she will do a great job in this role.
Opportunity is often hidden in change. The OCC Board looks forward to continued cooperation among its members. Two seats will come open in our 2026 election cycle. We invite you to join us. Learn more here: https://oneotacoop.com/come-join-us-on-the-board/.
*Oneota Co-op Policy Governance G4: 2.3: Board members must not use their positions to obtain for themselves, family members or close associates employment within the organization, a business relationship with the Co-op, or preferential treatment. A board member may not be a paid employee.
*Oneota Co-op Bylaw 5.10: In the event of a vacancy on the board for any cause other than term expiration, the remaining directors may choose to appoint a replacement from among the members to complete that director’s term, or the position may be filled for the remainder of the term by adding an additional slot to be elected by the membership in the regular annual board election.
