Welcome to the Oneota Co-op 50th Anniversary Fall Frolic. We are excited, and grateful, to be sharing this evening with you. We’ve included details regarding our celebration this Saturday, Sept. 28, below.

First of all, we wish to acknowledge Decorah’s Luna Valley Farm for enthusiastically serving as our Fall Frolic host. This will be the third year that Tom, Maren and the Luna Valley team have dedicated themselves to creating a memorable evening for all of us. If it’s your first time to Luna Valley Farm, the address to Google map is 3012 Middle Sattre Road, Decorah – https://www.lunavalleyfarm.com/. Tickets for the event are sold out; we will not be selling tickets at the gate.

Here’s to 50 years back for our Co-op! We look forward to 50 more years of “growing the good” here in northeast Iowa.

Please take a few moments to thoroughly read this message from our friends at Luna Valley Farm:

Timing

You are welcome to begin arriving at the farm anytime after 4 p.m. and Luna Valley Farm staff will start serving pizza as soon as there’s a critical mass! Oneota Co-op GM Nate Furler and OCC Board President Piper Wood will speak at 6 p.m. Switchback will take the stage at 7 p.m.

Location/Arrival

Luna Valley Farm is located eight miles north of Decorah at 3012 Middle Sattre Road. When you arrive, there will be someone at the end of the driveway to greet you, check you in and direct you towards parking. Feel free to arrive anytime after 4 p.m.!

Parking will be in our regular pizza night pasture parking lot and an adjacent hay field. The parking area looks big (and it is!) but will fill up on Saturday night. Please carpool if possible and plan to park tightly. We are not able to accommodate campers, buses and other large vehicles. It’s a short walk on a grassy trail and up a small hill to the event.

Accessible Parking: Please talk to a parking attendant if you or someone in your group needs closer/more accessible parking or to be dropped off near the pavilion so as to avoid uneven terrain. We are happy to help and want to do everything we can to make this event accessible and enjoyable for all.

Set-up/Seating

The bands will be set up under our 40×60 pavilion and there will be a 20×30 tent in the barn lawn adjacent to the pavilion for additional covered space. If possible, we encourage you to bring your own lawn chairs and blankets to the event for a picnic style experience akin to our regular pizza nights. Our picnic tables will be scattered around the farm and can provide seating for 150 guests. A limited number of eight foot tables and chairs will be placed under the pavilion to provide more accessible seating for guests not able to traverse the grassy areas and/or carry their own chairs and blankets to the event.

Food!

Wood-Fired Pizza: Luna Valley staff will be serving up seasonal wood-fired pizzas buffet style and we will crank them out as fast as humanly possible. Numbers for this event are quite inspiring (i.e. high!) and will, undoubtedly, push our pizza limits a bit. We thank you in advance for your patience and kindness as we work to get our pizza to your plates! Please consider starting with one to two slices and coming back for more once others have been through the line. Again, we will start serving pizza as soon as the first guests arrive (anytime after 4 p.m.). We welcome guests to dine in this earlier timeframe if they are able. And – you’ll have additional time to stroll about the farm and enjoy the company of others attending!

Special diet pizzas will be found on a separate table. Please let staff know if you have questions or need additional accommodations and we’ll do what we can!

Salad: Oneota Co-op will serve a fresh green salad – thanks local producers! – as well as its in-house composed beet salad. Salads will be labeled to accommodate special dietary needs.

Dessert: What’s a birthday party without cake? We’ll have that too (courtesy of Oneota Co-op), including a gluten-free option. Note: It’s completely ok to start your meal with dessert or salad – especially as we keep on crafting our wood-fired pizzas!

Drinks

Locally crafted beer, cider, kombucha and soda will be available for purchase at two different bars. We also offer natural wine and non-alcoholic beer. Free still and sparkling water are available on tap by the main bar. We have cups available and also invite you to bring your own water vessel. Please drink responsibly and plan ahead for a safe ride home. There are no taxi services or public transportation options from our farm the night of the event so please plan accordingly.

Restrooms

There will be three port-a-potties and a hand-washing station available for your use. If you or someone in your party is in need of a more accessible restroom, please let us know and we will be happy to open up our barn restrooms for you.

Things to Bring

  • Flashlight, head lamp or a good cell phone light
  • Dancing shoes (that are good on uneven terrain)
  • Water/Water bottle
  • Credit card/cash for the bar
  • Lawn Chairs and/or Blankets
  • Sweater/sweatshirt – it may cool off as the night goes on
  • Bug spray

Other things to know before the show:

Weather: The stage will be set up under our 40×60 pavilion and we have rented a 20×30 tent that will be set up in the barn lawn adjacent to the pavilion. The show will go on rain or shine and we ask that you consolidate as needed to make space for everyone under cover, if needed.

Camping: Sorry folks, No camping is permitted on the grounds of Luna Valley Farm the night of the event. There are lots of great lodging options in Decorah!

Trash/Recycling: We will have a  trash/recycling area set up the night of the show to collect your compost, cans, cups and trash.

Kids: We LOVE kids and really enjoy seeing them enjoying our farm! This is a working farm and there are hazards so please keep them close.

Pets: We love animals but ask that you leave your pets at home.

Smoking: Absolutely NO smoking on the grounds of our farm.

Fences: Assume all fences are electric (Don’t touch ‘em!)

We are thrilled to share this special evening with you and an inspiring number of guests who will be coming out to enjoy an evening of music, community and good food on the farm.

Cheers,

Maren, Tom and the Luna Valley Crew – in cooperation with Oneota Community Food Co-op
