What are you supporting when you choose to purchase Bob’s Red Mill at Decorah’s community-owned grocery store?

Employee Owned: Bob’s Red Mill was founded in 1978 by Bob and Charlee Moore. Bob passed away in 2024, and before he did so, he sold the company to his employees. Bob’s Red Mill is now 100% employee owned. We invite you to learn more about this business model in a Forbes article here.

Gluten Free Innovation: In the early 1980s, the Gluten Intolerance Group asked Bob’s if they could separate out gluten free grains. A commitment to equal food access to whole grain nutrition was the driving motivation beyond the company’s expansion into the (then non-existent) gluten free market. Fast forward to 2025 and Bob’s has a separate 58,200 square foot facility dedicated to its gluten free products.

Sustainability: Bob’s is invested in its Milwaukie, Oregon roots and actively working on a multi-year wetland restoration project. The organization follows a supplier code of conduct that defines baseline standards. Bob’s is involved in Oregon’s recycling programs and regenerative agriculture advances. The company transparently displays its carbon footprint info and other developments to the public. Bob’s Red Mill is a Portland Business Journal “Oregon’s Most Admired Companies” winner.
