Board welcomes two new members; bylaw amendment and compensation amount passes
The 2024 OCC Board of Directors results have been tabulated. Two seats were open during this election cycle. Departing members are Scott Timm, president, and Detra Dettmann, secretary. Timm and Dettmann both served six terms.
This year’s election was uncontested. Two candidates ran for the two available seats. Following vote tabulation, Nathan Dietzenbach received 409 votes; Piper Wood received 404. There were 415 online ballots. Thirteen paper ballots were cast. Oneota Co-op Board members serve three-year terms.
The 2024 ballot also contained one additional vote – that of choosing whether the Co-op should proceed with a bylaw amendment regarding the method of board compensation. A three-fourths majority was required for amendment passage. The bylaw amendment passed with 389 votes to approve and 31 votes to deny. A total of 428 votes were cast; those abstaining numbered eight.
Because the bylaw amendment passed, the final step was an additional vote to determine compensation details. The Oneota Co-op Board Compensation Committee proposed the following, with members voting either “yes” or “no”:
“Directors contributing productively to the Board’s work as defined by policy G4 – Board Members’ Code of Conduct – shall be compensated by a $150 per month Oneota Co-op gift card.”
Members were provided the opportunity to vote absentee via online or paper ballot. Votes also were cast at the Friday, April 12 annual meeting of the membership. There were 233 absentee ballots. Thirty four members cast in-person ballots. The voting options read: “Yes, I wish to implement the new proposal of $150 per month per board member as outlined.” or “No change to board compensation structure.”
Following vote tabulation, “Yes” votes numbered at 206; “No” votes were 61. Two ballots were not signed; these were filed as spoiled. Two members abstained. New board compensation will be initiated with the upcoming Tuesday, April 23 regular board meeting.
