The menu is planned. The table is set. The season returns year after year. Yes, being September, it is early to think about the holiday season. But we certainly have something to be excited about as November approaches.
In a tradition that started back in 2009, the Co-op continues the spirit of giving to the community with our annual food pantry fundraiser – Taste of the Holidays. As in years past, the Co-op provides a delicious opportunity for community members to give back to the community of Decorah and beyond.
“Taste of the Holidays” features a full holiday meal – complete with appetizers, wine and spritzer samples, roasted turkey, ham and tofurkey, fresh baked breads, succulent sides like stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, sweet potatoes and other veggies – including gluten-free options that we are known for. Finish it all off with your choice of pecan or pumpkin pie made fresh in our own Café and you have a meal destined to please.
The suggested donation to partake in this meal is $15. Each of five seating times has a maximum of 40 spaces, with pre-registration required by calling the Co-op (563-382-4666) or registering online at www.oneotacoop.com.
A New Addition
This year we are pleased to announce an expansion of this annual event – the addition of a take-away option. In an effort to increase the impact of this event on our community, we will offer a separate registration to allow individuals, groups, and families to partake in the main and dessert courses of the meal in to-go fashion. Those who register for the take-away option will be welcomed at the door and promptly given a to-go container in exchange for their suggested $10 donation. They will then immediately proceed through the lines to select their main and dessert courses. Once assembled we encourage friends and neighbors to enjoy these take-away meals together in the spirit of the holiday season.
Since 2009, this event and its sponsors have contributed over $18,000 to four local food pantries. Past sponsors include Decorah Bank and Trust, NICC, Ferndale Market, Albert’s Organics, Co-op Partners Warehouse, United Natural Foods, Inc., Grass Run Farms, Canoe Creek Produce, Waving Grains Bakery, Kickapoo Coffee, Organic Valley, Sno Pac Foods, Inc., Countryside Orchard, Beeler’s, Coon Creek Ranch, Hotel Winneshiek, McCaffrey’s Dolce Vita, Larry Schultz Organic Farm, Shullsburg Creamery, La Quercia, River Root Farm, Sartori Cheese, European Imports, Pacific Foods, EcoTensil, Luther College Culinary Team, Badgersett Farms, Lynn Staley, Fairfield Farm, Patchwork Green Farm, Missouri Pecans, Midwest Group Benefits, Glutino, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Some of these organizations have generously donated each year to the event and we greatly appreciate it.
