Similasan Eye Product Recall Details

A recent letter from Similasan USA leadership to its vendors included the following information:

Eight ophthalmic companies, including Similasan, recently received warming letters from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This letter detailed concerns regarding the manufacturing and marketing of homeopathic eye drops and the safety of one of the preservatives used in their manufacture, silver sulfate.

Each company was given 15 days to formulate a response to the FDA. The Similasan leadership team entered discussions with its retail partners, manufacturing centers and shareholders in order to develop a response to the FDA. Similasan’s statement here:

“Pending resolution of the FDA concerns, we have voluntarily suspended the sale and distribution of all Similasan eye drop products to US retailers. We are cooperating with the FDA to quickly resolve this matter.

Our ear drops and other ear relief products are not affected by the FDA’s action, and we want to thank you for your continued support of them and of the Similasan brand as we work towards a solution with the FDA. We will continue to update you as we have more clarity.”

Similasan’s full statement is here: https://www.similasanusa.com/similasan-statement-regarding-fda-warning-letter

Frontier Co-op is voluntarily recalling several of its products manufactured with organic garlic powder that were sold under its Frontier and Simply Organic brands due to potential Salmonella contamination. To date, no illnesses have been associated with these products.

The product in question was raw material received by Frontier, which tested positive for Salmonella during a test by the United States Food and Drug Administration. Given that Salmonella may be present, Frontier is immediately initiating this recall.
