You will find delectable fresh mozzarella, handmade right here at the Oneota Co-op. Ovalini are the ample, tender, oval balls great for caprese salad or sliced on a homemade pizza. Bocconcini (meaning little mouthfuls) are the tasty cheese knots marinated in Sicilian olive oil with garlic, red pepper flakes and parsley ready for devouring as is. (We suggest serving them at room temperature.)
More than half of our abundant cheese offerings come from local sources, including Iowa’s award-winning Prairie Breeze and world-famous Maytag Blue. We also offer classic cheese varieties from around the country, and the world, including Couronne Brie from France, Parmgiano Reggiano from Italy, and squeaky cheese curds direct from the creamery in Waukon. Additionally, there is always a great selection of certified organic cheese in our case.
Our cheese staff is very knowledgeable and always happy to help. Our cheese buyer has personally visited a number of the farms and factories where cheeses are made in our region. She strives to buy cheese from producers who care about their animals and their products.
For your health, and the health of the environment, the cheese we cut in-house is wrapped with non-PCB food wrap.
