Deli & Baked Goods

Our Co-op Deli bakery case makes for a great stop any time of day. Choose from fresh-baked scones, muffins, cookies and pastries. Visit our Deli Grab & Go case for individual cakes, bars, and other desserts.

Oneota Co-op is fortunate to feature locally-produced, whole grain and hearty breads on our grocery shelves, as well as specialties like Norwegian lefse (a soft, potato flatbread) and biscotti (an Italian-style cookie good for “dunking”). Fresh, frozen lefse also is available in our freezer section.

If you love sandwiches or toasting breads, shop our selection of English muffins, morning rounds, pitas and tortillas from brands like Rudi’s Organic Bakery, Ozery Bakery, Stacey’s Organic Tortillas, Dave’s Killer Bread, Bagels Forever of Madison, Wis. and much more. These items may be found on our shelves or in our freezers.

Oneota Co-op carries a wide variety of gluten-free bread and pastry items. Our Deli Grab & Go features gluten-free items as well. Those seeking information about their gluten-free choices at Oneota Co-op may email customerservice@oneotacoop.com. We welcome the opportunity to serve those requiring specific dietary needs.

Bulk

Welcome to the largest bulk foods department in northeast Iowa! Bulk is a department at the heart of Oneota Co-op. The Co-op’s roots were planted when a group of individuals in the early 1970s formed a buying club to purchase healthy, bulk foods to divide among its members. Bulk purchasing remains a sustainable, and affordable, option today.

Bulk items available include flours, oats, grains, beans, nuts, spices, maple syrup, oils, nut butters, tea, coffee, soaps and more. We feature local, organic flour from Meadowlark Farm & Mill, maple syrup from Green’s Sugar Bush and spices from fellow cooperative, Frontier Co-op.

Shopping “bulk” doesn’t mean one has to purchase a large amount of an item; it means consumers may buy as little, or as much, as they desire. Shoppers may bring their own clean container, or purchase one in the store.

“But I’ve never shopped in the Bulk department.” No worries! That’s what our friendly Co-op staff is here for. We will answer your questions and help you learn how easy, sustainable, and cost-effective shopping bulk truly is.

Cheese

There’s truly something for everyone in our Cheese department. From staples such as colby, cheddar and swiss varieties to Gjetost, halloumi, paneer and more global varieties – our Cheese Department is an especially fun one to explore. Whether you’re looking to stack up your next sandwich, make a family meal, design a crowd-pleasing charcuterie or pack a picnic, we’ve got a wide variety of selections to suit your occasion.

Our Cheese department offers the opportunity to showcase a wealth of options created right here in the Driftless region. Producers you may find include: WW Homestead Dairy of Waukon, Prairie Farms of Luana, Milton Cheese of Milton, Carr Valley of Fennimore, Wis., Nordic Creamery of Westby, Wis., Meister Cheese of Muscoda, Wis.,Organic Valley of La Farge, Wis., and Rochdale Farms Cooperative, a collection of over 35 midwestern Amish family farms.

We strive to help our shoppers find cheese options that they can happily consume. The Co-op carries goat and sheep’s milk selections as well as the increasingly popular A2 cheese and lactose-free options. For a selection of non-dairy cheese options, visit our refrigerated/vegan cooler on the North end of Aisle 3.

We invite you to pair our extensive cheese offerings with selections from our Meat department as well as fig spreads, hummus, olives, crackers and more to create a beautiful charcuterie spread you’re sure to enjoy.

Chill & Frozen

We call our refrigerated department “Chill” because it encompasses so much more than great dairy products that are organic, local and/or products free of artificial hormones. The Chill case also contains non-dairy options like milk and yogurt crafted from oats, almonds, soy, coconut, flax and goat’s milk. We carry eggs from small, local producers and offer free-range and organic options. Look for vegetarian and vegan meatless products, including dairy-free cheeses, dips, creams and creamers as well.

Our Frozen department offers a wide selection of baked goods, local Sno Pac frozen vegetables and fruits, great ice cream and frozen treat options (both dairy and non-dairy), as well as heat-and-eat meals and snacks with organic ingredients.

This department carries a wide range of gluten-free products. This selection includes pizza crusts, heat-and-eat meals, English muffins, hot dog and hamburger buns and several bread brands. We stock from popular gluten-free baked goods companies such as Udi’s, Food for Life, Rudi’s, KinnikKinnick and Against the Grain. You’ll find vegan frozen meats in this area as well.

Oneota Co-op is a go-to spot for frozen ice creams, desserts, gelato and sorbets. You’ll find dairy and non-dairy options which may include Alden’s Ice Cream (the US’s consistently highest-selling organic ice cream), Talenti, Oatly, So Delicious, Cosmic Bliss and more.

Meat

Oneota Co-op prioritizes vendors committed to regenerative agricultural practices, fair compensation for workers, humane treatment of animals and thriving local food systems. Our Meat department strives to source meat and seafood that is:

  • Organic (as available), Local, Grass-fed, Free-range, Antibiotic-free, Hormone-free, MSG-free, Free of non naturally-occurring nitrates

Our cooler and freezer spaces are stocked with chicken, turkey, lamb, beef, pork and seafood. Local vendors you may find at the Co-op include Highland View Farm, Beard Family Farm, Rock Cedar Ranch, Al’s Country Meats, Jewell Enterprises, Driftless Provisions and Ferndale Market.

With 12 feet of fresh meat and sliced uncured deli meat, you’re sure to find something tasty for the grill, oven, stir fry or triple-decker sandwich. Fresh chicken, local ground beef, hot dogs, bacon and more are available daily. We’ve got your hankering for prosciutto, smoked salmon and lox covered too.

Those seeking a special product or quantity of item are invited to contact the Meat department.

Produce

We’re fond of saying “we love local” – and we truly mean it! The strength of our local food system, and our relationship with our local producers, is key to our vibrant Produce department. There’s no better place to “eat the rainbow” than Oneota Co-op.

Oneota Co-op’s large Produce department is seasonally-stocked with fresh fruits and vegetables. A large number of our items are organic and many are grown on Driftless-area farms. We mark our food according to its location of origin (be in Decorah, Iowa, California or Mexico). We are conscious of the global effects of our purchases and strive to keep our footprint fair and small.

The Co-op’s Produce department is also fun. Get ready to possibly meet new foods such as celeriac, purple Daikon radishes, kumquats, finger limes, golden beets, leeks, figs, Red Kuri squash and so much more – along with your favorite apples, bananas, potatoes, greens, zucchini, peppers and more meal favorites. Our trained Produce department staff welcomes questions and is happy to offer samples to empower a shopper’s ability to make the best choices.

Oneota Co-op is a partner in the Double Up Food Bucks (DUFB) program. This initiative allows SNAP recipients increased access to fresh fruits and vegetables. Learn more here: https://www.iowahealthieststate.com/double-up-food-bucks

Wellness & Gifts

Oneota Co-op’s Wellness & Gifts department offers a myriad of nutritional supplements to support the health goals of differing age groups. We feature a full selection of body care items including hair care products, soaps, lotions, deodorant, menstrual aids and more. Our gift selection varies per calendar year and may include candles, lamps, clothing, bags, toys, games, jewelry, drinking vessels, incense and much more. We offer a large selection of greeting cards; many are crafted by local artists.

Special attention is given to brands committed to quality ingredient sourcing and materials, fair treatment of employees, sustainability practices and give-back initiatives. Many items are organic, Fair Trade and/or Certified B Corporation certified and cruelty-free.

Special Diets

If you or a loved one has a special diet, Oneota Co-op is here to help. We stock many items throughout the Co-op that are free of dairy, wheat, sugar, salt or hydrogenated oils. Looking for a specific item but can’t find it? We may be able to special order it for you. Please email customerservice@oneotacoop.com or call 563.382.4666 with your inquiry.

Allergy Free Store Tours

We know that dietary changes due to allergens and/or intolerances are hard. Ingredient labels may be confusing, with hidden allergens popping up in favorite foods. We are happy to provide you with an allergy-free store tour by request. Learn to read labels, find foods you can enjoy and become more comfortable with your dietary options. This tour time is set aside for any type of specific needs, such as Celiac Sprue, gluten or lactose intolerance, nut allergies and others. Please email customerservice@oneotacoop.com or call 563.382.4666 for more information.

Wine & Beer

Discerning wine shoppers are impressed with our selection and we love hearing so. A grateful nod goes to a couple of our vendors, Meadowlark Provisions of Decorah, and Best Case Wines of Iowa City, for their top-notch recommendations and service. We’re able to offer beautiful, hand-selected options at moderate price points.

Our beer, cider, and hard kombucha selections are selected as carefully as our wines. There’s a story behind our brands – and we love ones that involve entrepreneurship, give-back initiatives, and the desire to build strong communities. Local community builders included on our shelves include options from Convergence Ciderworks and Winneshiek County breweries Pivo, Pulpit Rock and Toppling Goliath. Co-op shoppers are invited to use our popular “Pick-a-Six” on our chilled options. Grab a six-slotted container, pick out six selections, save a couple bucks at the register, and let your indoor or outdoor adventures begin!

Local Producers

Oneota Co-op defines local as any product grown, produced, roasted, processed, or packaged within approximately a 100-mile radius of the Co-op.

We are committed to supporting local producers and providing local goods for customers to purchase. Our most recent Annual Report reports that 25.88% of total store sales were local. In dollars, this amounts to $1,298,542.30. Local items are easily identifiable in the store by their red tags. A total of local sales a shopper has purchased also is printed at the bottom of their sales receipt. Our local producers vary per season and availability.
